What is DIRECTV®?
DIRECTV Latin America, LLC, is a multinational company owned by DIRECTV Latin America Holdings, a subsidiary of The DIRECTV Group, Inc. The company was established on February 13, 1995, to provide the DIRECTV™ service to Latin America and the Caribbean and deliver direct-to-home satellite television entertainment service to Latin America and the Caribbean.
The service was launched in 1996. DIRECTV reaches 27 countries including Argentina,
Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras,
Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela and several
Caribbean island nations. DIRECTV offers more channels and has a greater coverage
than any other direct-to-home service in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Subscribers to DIRECTV receive the widest array of entertainment options, all with
sharp digital images and CD-quality sound. The programming is a mix from the best
international entertainment providers in Latin America, the United States, Europe
and Asia. DIRECTV was the first to introduce an interactive programming guide and
Pay Per View services to Latin America.
In 2000, DIRECTV introduced Interactivity in the region, giving customers access
to customer service applications, as well as an exciting suite of video games. In
September 2003, DIRECTV launched PLAYIN’TV, an interactive games channel that covers
all popular genres: traditional favorites, card and board games, action and adventure,
sports games, strategy and puzzle games and educational games.
DIRECTV also offers enhanced television viewing. These interactive applications
have been provided in those markets where DIRECTV has broadcast rights for sporting
events such as the 2002 FIFA World Cup™, the 2002 Super Bowl XXXVI and most recently
as part of the exclusive broadcast of the NFL SUNDAY TICKET during the 2003 NFL
season. Interactive services are currently available in Argentina, Brazil, Costa
Rica, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.
DIRECTV is a leading direct-to-home satellite television service in Latin America
and the Caribbean. Currently, the service reaches approximately 1.5 million customers
in the region, in a total of 27 markets. DIRECTV is currently available in: Argentina,
Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras,
Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela and several
Caribbean island nations.
